Early call 600 Breakfast across the street. New York is pricey. A breakfast croissant with eggs and sausage comes to 3.75. Only $2.50 at Ashleys and it comes with cheese.
We take a quick trip to Battery Park. There's little traffic on the road this time of day. Taxi to Battery Park $12.50. When we arrive, there are no signs telling us where to go. We find a line at the Castle Clinton (no lie) so we wait there. Unfortunately, this is the wrong line for those like us who already has a pass.
So we move to a line closer to the water and wait. People wait in another line to board a yellow and black water taxi. We enter a hot tent. No bottled water is allowed after this point. The security check was interesting. Unlike the airport, they want you to remove your belt and wallet. They x-ray your equipment pass you through a metal detector and something that must be an explosives detector since it hits you with a puff of air. Wonder what happens if a guy farts while it is testing.
After security checks, a ferry takes us to Liberty Island. We are told to not get the headsets yet and instead go directly to the line for the statue while the line is still short. Of course, there is another security check at the pedestal. Inside the pedestal are exhibits about the history of the statue. You can walk up to the observation deck or wait in line for the elevator. I hoof it. It's not all that bad. The view from there is not all that spectacular. We return to the souvenir shoppe and pick up the tour headphones which walks you around the outside of the pedestal.
