Sun Sept 14, 2008 Checking out Pete's place

The land line and cell was taken over by FEMA, so we lose communications with the outside world. Rick and Kathy drops by for a spell. They had set up a generator and invites us over. Mary said that the weather was nicer and that we may take up the offer if it became hotter.

Mary, Pete and I traveled to Shore Acres to check out his house. He had 2 to 3 feet flooding. Many trees were down, but didn't touch the house. One nearly blocked his driveway.

Kroger at Space Center and El Dorado has a line to enter. We don't even stop. There is no line at the HEB at Bay Area and El Camino. A cop and a manager waits outside and answers. Inside, the store is dimly lit and crowded. The song "It's the end of the world as we know it" keeps running through my head. They tell us that ice in the back. 2 bags per customer. We split up. I get the ice while Mary and Pete shops separately. The store is taking credit cards. When we leave there IS a long line outside.

This is our second day without power. The fridge is warm so we move everything to the freezer.
