While in the parking shuttle, Mary gets a call from Carolyn. Carolyn and Bill got to a rough start. Carolyn thought their plane was leaving at 8:00 am. It turns out she made reservations for 8:00 pm. They managed to change it for a 10 am flight.
Although, Houston is on Central time and Vegas is on Mountain, we experience a two hour difference. I guess Vegas doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time. As we deplane, I notice the lady seated before us is getting married in Vegas since she has a white carry-on. I notice another bride-to-be at the women's restroom.
When we arrive at the Paris, the front desk is still in the process of checking out guests. Only a room with two queen beds are available. We decide to wait for a king. I should have asked if the room with the 2 queens had a view. We don't have the boys to squeeze us out anyways. We leave our luggage with bellhop on the curb and are off exploring while we wait for Carolyn and Bill. Glenda wants a Zumanity refrigerator magnet which we can find at New York New York. That's not too far away so we check it out.
Next door, we check out the new Planet Hollywood or Ph as they call it. Vegas is constantly changing. Two years ago, the Aladdin stood on this very spot. Across Las Vegas Blvd, Planet Hollywood is building the tallest timeshare building. A portion of the casino is roped off, and they ask us to keep away. I ask what is going on. They are filming a movie. Cameron Diaz was there earlier whih is a weird coincidence since we just saw her on the movie "The Holiday".
We visit M&M World which is celebrating their 10th anniversary here. We've been here once before, but we've missed this. On the third floor, we discover a tour of how they make M&Ms. At the end is a 3-D movie with a rumble seat and even wind effects. It's too bad that the 3D glasses were scratched or warped. The fourth floor had the M&M sponsored NASCAR racing car.
We return to the Paris around 1130 to check-in. It is now a checkout and check in line. We get a room with a king bed but no view. Instead of a closet, we have a split armoire.
Carolyn and Bill calls, and we check out their room. Their room has two queens and a view of the pool and the Bellagio fountains off to the side, but had to upgrade to get it. They also get free continental breakfasts and hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon. We enjoy lunch at an outdoor sidewalk cafe which is actually indoors. It would be more enjoyable if we didn't have to hear the sounds of the slot machines and smell the persistent cigarette smoke.
Heather arrives at Carolyn and Bill's room, and we're off to the Grand Hilton to see Menopause the Musical. Heather drives since the hotel is on the north side of the strip which would be a long walk. All of the hotels have free self-parking. Menopause is a fun musical even for a guy. How many times can we guys laugh at women's problems without getting in trouble? Bill buys each of us a hot flash fans for a $1 each. The money will go towards ovian cancer research. Sandra.
It's Hilton family night. Kids and parents alike are dressed in costume and are headed to one of the ballrooms.
After we had the dinner buffet at the Hilton, I realized that we could have eaten at Quark's. Oh well, next time.
